AAP Resolution Writing Workshop

Wednesday, February 19, 2025

6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Virtual via Zoom

Have an idea to improve child health or AAP policies? Learn how to turn it into a powerful resolution!

Join us for a workshop on drafting and submitting resolutions for the AAP Annual Leadership Conference (ALC). Resolutions are a formal way to introduce new ideas, address critical issues, and advocate for system-wide change within the AAP at the Chapter, District, and National levels.

Led by Dr. Nicole Webb, Chapter President and District IX Chapter Forum Management Committee (CFMC) Representative, this workshop will provide expert guidance on crafting a compelling proposal. You are also encouraged to bring your resolution ideas to discuss and refine them!

Meet our Speaker

Nicole (Nikki) Webb, MD, FAAP – AAPCA1 President and District IX Chapter Forum Management Committee (CFMC) Representative

Dr. Nikki Webb is a Pediatric Hospital Medicine physician and Residency Program Director at Kaiser Permanente Oakland Medical Center. She has been an active member of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) since her pediatric residency at UCLA, dedicating herself to advocacy and leadership within the organization.

Dr. Webb has held numerous leadership roles within the AAP and AAP California Chapter 1 (AAPCA1). She currently serves as Chapter President of AAPCA1 and as the AAP District IX (California) representative to the Chapter Forum Management Committee (CFMC), which organizes the AAP Annual Leadership Conference.

Passionately committed to advocating for high-risk, vulnerable populations in California, Dr. Webb focuses on addressing health disparities from the earliest stages of medical education. She is a recognized leader in patient- and family-centered care and health literacy best practices, providing training for both learners and faculty on effective communication in healthcare.

Want to learn more before our workshop? Here’s an overview:

  1. Pick an issue that you are passionate about.
  2. Search for past resolutions (see below) to make sure that you don’t end up writing something that has already been approved.
  3. Collaborate with others to make this a team effort; it’s less effort and more fun that way.
  4. Share your resolution with your local AAP Chapter for edits and sponsorship consideration. For Northern & Central CA, please email AAPCA1 at info@aapca1.org by March 1, 2025. (This is not an official submission!)
  5. Submit your resolution to AAP National by April 1, 2025.

All your resources for writing a resolution is on one website: https://collaborate.aap.org/alf/Pages/home.aspx

Research Before You Write

Look for past resolutions in the searchable database. Read the guidelines (everything you always wanted to know) to understand the details of writing a resolution; or if you prefer just the main points, look at the infographic. The resolution video is another way to learn how to do this.
