Chapter Executive Director
YOLANDA RUIZ, BSPH – Executive Director

Yolanda is the Executive Director of AAP California Chapter 1, where she brings a deep passion for public health, community development, and child advocacy. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Public Health from the University of California, San Diego, where her interest in the field was sparked through internships focused on youth mentoring, translation services, and community outreach.
Yolanda has over a decade of experience in nonprofit leadership, having served in multiple roles at Camp HOPE America, a trauma-informed mentoring program for youth impacted by domestic violence. What began as a summer volunteer opportunity evolved into a ten-year journey of service, during which she developed a strong commitment to building supportive networks that foster child and family healing. In addition to her nonprofit work, Yolanda has a background in healthcare, having worked in patient coordination at Family Health Centers of San Diego and Crisis House, where she developed skills in culturally responsive communication and patient advocacy.
As Executive Director at AAP-CA1, Yolanda oversees chapter operations and initiatives in support of over 2,000 pediatricians in Northern and Central California. She works closely with pediatric leaders and volunteers to advance child health policies, strengthen community partnerships, and support the professional development of future pediatricians. Her leadership has helped expand the chapter’s communications, strengthen its educational impact, and elevate the voices of pediatricians in policy spaces.
Yolanda is currently an active member of MANA, a national Latina organization, and successfully participated in the Latina Leadership Success Program cohort of 2023. She is also a committed member of Toastmasters International for both English and Spanish since 2021 and served as club president from 2022 to 2023.
Outside of her professional life, Yolanda enjoys spending time with family, friends, and her pocket bully, Canela. In her downtime, you can find her in salsa dance classes, sewing dog scarves, scrapbooking, or traveling.
