KANANI TICHEN – Adolescent & Young Adults (AYA) Champion

Dr. Kanani Titchen is an Associate Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at Stanford University in the Division of Adolescent Medicine. She completed her medical school at Jefferson Medical College and her fellowship at Montefiore. She specializes in caring for youth from many socioeconomic, racial, ethnic, and gender backgrounds who experience eating disorders, reproductive health concerns, anxiety and depression, and trauma. Born and raised in Hawaii, Dr. Titchen is a former professional theater actress and teaching artist who came to medicine years after college. She credits her work in theater for teaching her to embrace alternate perspectives and to break down information for teen and young adult learners. Dr. Titchen uses a combination of evidence-based medicine, trauma-informed care, and motivational interviewing when working with patients and their families. She embraces the evidence that shows that compassion in medicine makes both humanistic and economic sense.
