JONATHON EVERETT LEE, DDS, FAAPD, FACD – San Mateo County Area Director
Dr. Lee has been a member of AAP since 2006 and has been in private practice in Foster City since finishing his Pediatric Dental and Orthodontic Residency at the UCLA Center for Health Sciences and Medical Center in 2000. Dr. Lee has gained a deeper appreciation for lifelong learning and seeing the specialty guidelines in action as a multi-trained, dual-board-certified pediatric specialist who provides comprehensive pediatric dental and orthodontic care and education for patients and their parents.
Participating in organized dentistry and medicine has been a collaborative and rewarding experience for Dr. Lee, allowing him to share ideas and practical tips to advance our profession, advocate for children’s oral health, and improve communication between dental and medical homes.
His membership within the AAP and its Section of Oral Health furthers his commitment to improving children’s oral health. Early in his career, he served as the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) Western District representative on the New Pediatric Dentist Committee and later as Chair, where he successfully implemented the New Pediatric Dentist Continuing Education program and launched the New Pediatric Dentist Reception at the Annual Session in San Francisco in 2006. From 2005 to 2011, he served as a Board Director for the California Society of Pediatric Dentistry, chairing curriculum review and aiding in online continuing education. He eventually served as its President from 2018 to 2019. During his presidency, he oversaw the transition of the Executive Director, restored the Spring Annual Meeting, and developed a Sedation Policy aligning with AAPD/AAP Guidelines. He also served as the AAPD liaison for California and the Western Society of Pediatric Dentistry (WSPD) from 2006-2013 and on the Board of Trustees for WSPD, serving as its President from 2011-2012. From 2021 to 2022, he was the Western District Trustee for the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. From 2014 to 2023, he served on the Foundation of the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, chairing it from 2017 to 2019. During that time, he completed strategic planning and increased donations by 200%.
As a dual board-certified private practice pediatric dentist and orthodontist, he recognizes the benefits of organized healthcare to the profession and the patients we serve. His foresight, vision, adaptability, and skills in public relations and social media management are qualities he hopes to contribute as the San Mateo County Area Director for AAPCA1. He is particularly interested in understanding how cross-generational, cultural, and societal factors influence our profession, the impact of social media and technology, and finding new ways to disseminate information and education to the public and healthcare professionals.
