DEEPAK VIJAYAN NAIR, MD – Immigrant Child Health Co-Chair

Dr. Deepak Vijayan Nair, MD, FAAP, is a board-certified pediatrician at Adventist Health in California’s Central Valley, where he provides comprehensive, family-centered care to children from diverse and underserved communities. He earned his medical degree from SUT Academy of Medical Sciences in Kerala, India, and completed his Pediatric residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai–Elmhurst Hospital in New York. During residency, he also completed the Healthcare Administration Scholars Program at NYC Health + Hospitals, further developing his interests in healthcare leadership, quality improvement, and systems-based care.

Dr. Vijayan Nair’s professional interests include preventive pediatrics, childhood obesity, developmental health, healthcare quality improvement, medical education, and child advocacy. His quality-improvement work received first-place awards at the Mount Sinai Child Health Research Day and the NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst Research and Quality Improvement Day. He has also presented his work at the Pediatric Academic Societies Meeting and an Academic Pediatric Association regional meeting.

During residency, Dr. Vijayan Nair was actively involved in Show & Roll, a resident-led community health initiative supported by a grant from the Committee of Interns and Residents/SEIU. Through interactive wellness events held outside traditional clinical settings, pediatric residents connected with local children and families and provided practical education on preventive health topics, including bicycle and swimming safety, healthy eating, and active living. He also participated in community education addressing vaccine safety and parental concerns through the Queens Public Library. These experiences strengthened his commitment to meeting families where they are and advancing child health through education, prevention, and community engagement.

Medical education is an important part of Dr. Vijayan Nair’s practice. He teaches Physician Assistant students from Stanford University School of Medicine, Pediatric residents from the Valley Children’s Pediatric Residency Program, and Adventist Health Family medicine residents from the Hanford, Tulare, and Sonora programs. He is honored to serve as Co-Chair of the AAP California Chapter 1 Immigrant Child Health Committee and looks forward to collaborating with fellow pediatricians to advance education, advocacy, and equitable care for children and families.
