MEERA SANKAR, MD, FAAP – Santa Clara Member At Large
Dr. Meera Sankar is a Neonatologist and Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Stanford University. Previously she worked as a Neonatologist in a large private group practice (Mednax national medical group) at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose CA for 13 years before joining Stanford.
Over the course of her career, Dr. Sankar has held leadership positions such as the Medical Director of NICU and Chair of Pediatrics at Regional Medical Center, San Jose. During that time, she organized Perinatal Grand Rounds and was involved in outreach education for the community physicians and nursing staff on a regular basis. She actively participates in Quality Improvement projects for the nursery and NICU.
Dr. Sankar has participated as a site Principal Investigator for several multicenter clinical studies sponsored by the Pediatrix Center for Education and Research and coauthored publications. Recently she was the recipient of the Clinician Educator grant offered by the Maternal Child health and Research Institute at Stanford, and is currently working on a project related to barriers to breastfeeding and breast milk use in the NICU setting.
Dr. Sankar serves on the Board of the California Association of Neonatologists (CAN) and is the Co-Chair for the CAN research committee.
She strongly feels that her varied interests and experience across clinical work, administration, education, advocacy and research has prepared her well to serve on the American Academy of Pediatrics CA Chapter 1 board and advance its mission to improve the healthcare of newborns.
