ISRA UZ-ZAMAN, MS – Executive Director
Isra is an alumna of Johns Hopkins University and the University of California, Davis where she completed her Masters in Biotechnology and Bachelors in Genetics respectively. Isra has been working with AAP since 2014. She started out at AAP California (AAPCA) as an Executive Assistant and since then took on roles as Legislative & Advocacy Coordinator and most recently as Associate Director. While at AAPCA, she focused on advocacy/legislative issues at the state level, coordinated the Resident Advocacy Rotation training program, worked on the Disaster Prepared Grant and much more. Beyond AAP, she is the Youth Programs Coordinator at Elk Grove American Muslim Community Center and has been actively involved since 2007. She’s picked up event and non-profit management from her many gigs while working at this community center. Isra also has heath care exposure from a surgical internship at the UC Davis Medical Center, Shifa Community Clinic volunteer, Hospice training and EMT certification.
Majority of her free time is spent nurturing, playing with and participating in activities with her five year old niece Salwa. When she has time to herself, Isra enjoys creating art, doing home renovation, writing poetry and performing spoken word, reading and watching fiction, running, biking and any outdoor activity in the beautiful California weather (rain or shine)!
